Citadel and Citadel Securities like to hire from Goldman Sachs. This week, Scott Rubner, a former managing director (MD) in Goldman’s “global equity macro team” landed at Citadel Securities in Miami as head of equity and equity derivatives strategy. But Citadel also has another, lower key, ex-Goldman hire.

In March, Citadel quietly hired Cláudio Rodrigues as a New York-based lead in end user computing.

Rodrigues left Goldman Sachs in February. He was only a senior VP at Goldman, but sources say this belied his importance and popularity there. Rodrigues has worked in end user computing since 1991 and in the mid-90s was a key author of the Parallels Remote Application server, which is used to this day. He also invented the first load balancer to distribute connection requests and he’s written various definitive books about desktop computing as a service.

Rodrigues’ arrival comes as Citadel appears to be building out its end user computing team under Stoyan Varlyakov, who was there already but promoted to head of end user computing in June. Varlyakov says he’s hiring in London and New York.

The benefits of working with Varlyakov are not clear, but he is clearly very competent. The benefits of working with Rodrigues may also involve humor. His X account reveals a strong appreciation for the quirks of end user computing. “Doing off premise is like shitting while away from home. Never feels as good as on premise,” he observes in a pinned Tweet from 11 years ago that he says still applies to this day.
