Peterson didn’t respond to a request to comment for this article. His FINRA registration says he’s still at William Blair, but his LinkedIn profile says he’s on gardening leave. Multiple sources say he’s found a new job. It’s thought to be at Oppenheimer, where he might soon be running equities sales and trading.
Neither William Blair nor Oppenheimer responded to a request to clarify Peterson’s position.
William Blair seemed partial to Peterson. He was promoted to partner there in January 2025 and must, therefore, have done something right. It’s thought his departure is a blow after he helped build out William Blair’s institutional equities franchise. Brendan Quinn, a former Credit Suisse colleague arrived on the team in June.
Now Quinn might want to join Oppenheimer instead.
