Andreas Koukorinis, formerly global head of credit electronic trading and FICC ETF systematic trading at JPMorgan, is moving up in the world. Earlier this year, he was hired by electronic trading firm Optiver in London to co-lead its credit team; now, he’s being moved to New York as the firm sets up its credit trading operations in the US.
Koukorinis, otherwise known as ‘AK’, announced last week that he will be “building Optiver’s next-generation Credit trading team from the ground up,” and announced three open job listings within the team. He’s hiring three quant strats working on credit derivatives, credit microstructures, and ETF and portfolio trading, respectively. The roles each pay a flat salary of $200k in addition to Optiver’s profit sharing scheme. Other credit roles in New York include an institutional trader opening for a candidate with four years of experience.
AK and Optiver did not comment on the size of the credit team to date, but it has been making hires since his arrival. Hanbing Jiang, a former systematic trader at Barclays and UBS, joined Optiver as a credit trader in New York back in February.
Koukorinis joined Optiver from crypto trading firm GSR, where he worked for a year. During his tenure, the market maker cut headcount across its UK entities by 20% (from June 2023 to June 2024) according to Companies House accounts. Some at GSR seem unhappy with the changes he made there, possibly as a result.
