Once upon a time, Christmas parties were big occasions in banks. After some drunken incidents, this is no longer the case. Family Halloween parties may still be fair game in financial services, though.

At Citadel and Citadel Securities we understand that Halloween parties for employees and their families are one of the perks paid for annually by CEO Ken Griffin. They’ve occurred for the past 10 years. This year, there were parties in both New York and Miami. In 2023, Citadel held a Halloween party at the “famously haunted” Alfred I. duPont Building in Miami. Last year’s parties included people dressed as lions, magicians, and pirates. We are waiting to see this year’s photos.
Citadel declined to comment for this article. People who’ve seen photographs of the Halloween events say they are “very theatrical.” The parties are family events, but children do not appear to be present.
Citadel and Citadel Securities do not run Halloween parties in London, where Halloween is less of a big deal. There are no parties in Asia either.
Griffin does, however, fund a range of locally appropriate entertainments in both locations. It’s not clear whether this includes a Guy Fawkes bonfire at the office in London.
