If you work in banking now, I have some advice for you: leave. I left a major US bank nearly a decade ago, and I now have a senior role interfacing with AI at Amazon.

People in investment banking jobs have no idea what is coming for them. And it’s coming soon.
Many of the jobs that are being done in banks are very easy to automate with AI. At Amazon, we already have access to the sorts of cutting edge agentic tools that are leading the AI race and that will be released in the next year. As this happens, and as competitors like OpenAI also launch their banking-specific tools, banking jobs are going to be decimated. Pay attention to JPMorgan, which is already planning to move jobs to India.
People I speak to in banking don’t seem able to comprehend the enormity of the coming change. They are too lazy or too greedy to have figured it out. People in tech can see it and are ahead of the curve.
This doesn’t mean Amazon is an easy place to work. The company is in a state of near constant reorganization and last week we cut 14,000 jobs. At least it’s real here, though: we’re living in the future; bankers have their heads in the sand.
